Wave Away – new single X-18
My new Wave Away single X-18 is out today. I wanted to try something new in this song – telling a gritty retro-futuristic cinematic sci-fi wartime escape-and-on-the-run kind of story.
It’s very different from anything I’ve done before. Definitely inspired by Bowie’s early epics, Trent Reznor’s dystopian works, and Thomas Dolby’s story-telling. If you listen carefully, you may hear morse code and WW2 air raid sirens. Also features the ARP 2600 and multipoly native – fun to be able to bring together these different worlds.
There's only so many steps you can take
When you're headed for the wall
We saw the signal flare
(we saw the signal flare)
We were not prepared
(were we not prepared?)
I stayed behind so you could run
Fly away now, X-18
X-18, just fly away now
Fly away now, X-18
X-18, fly far away now
We thought we'd have the time we need
To finish work on our new machine
But now you're on the run and there's no hope
I'll break it down and I'll burn it all
Leave nothing behind to find, then I'll
I'll follow your steps and try to find you
Can you receive me now, X-18?
X-18, will you receive me today?
Can you hear me now, X-18?
X-18, will you receive me today?
Fly, fly away
(stay under the waves)
Fly, fly away
(stay under the waves)
Fly, fly don't wait
(stay under the waves)
And make your escape
(stay under the waves)
Fly, fly away
(stay under the waves)
And make your escape
(stay under the waves)
