Music video for Analysis out now
For the last few months, I’ve been obsessing over the details of a music video for my song Analysis. I wanted this to be more of a cinematic short film, rather than a performance/lyric video like my Paralysis video. Today’s the day I finally say “enough tinkering- time to release it into the wild”!
In this video, I wanted to convey the sense of analysis paralysis – overthinking and trying to push away invasive thoughts. For the EP cover, I comp’d together some long-exposure night shots to show me in animated conversation with myself.
For the video, there are several such scenes, and they were much harder to pull off, especially the walkers in the tunnel with their overlapping shadows – I spent countless hours tweaking that scene!
I have a new appreciation and admiration for the directors, actors, location scouts, storyboarders, cinematographers, editors, color graders, vfx artists and everyone else that work in film to pull off such seamless works of art. I did my best, DIY, to learn on the fly, and found myself dealing with different lighting and shadows in uncontrolled environments, the differences when filming one scene across multiple days, drifting camera positions within a shot due to the wind, the movement of the sun and clouds dramatically changing the look of the scene, the subtle and not-so-subtle differences between my cameras, etc, etc.
It was an intense, laborious challenge editing down so many hours of recorded footage into a less-than-4-minute music video – and attempting to make it look like it was all intended to go together! It’s a relief to be done with it. Time to record some new music!
